Dr Ethan Ko Introduction - DaVita Kidney Specialists of Fredericksburg
Hello, I am Dr. Ethan Ko. I am currently the managing physician of DaVita Kidney Specialists of Fredericksburg.
I am a true Virginia native, growing up in Northern Virginia, I received my Bachelors of Science at James Madison University in Harrisonburg and further pursued my Doctor of Osteopathy at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Shortly after, I completed my residency at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ and continued on to complete my Nephrology Fellowship at Georgetown University.
During training, the field of nephrology piqued my interest because: - The kidney is one of the most neglected, underrated organs while it’s one of the most fascinating organ systems - I noticed the struggles and how harsh dialysis can be on patients. - There is a continuity of care and sense of community for dialysis care patients. - Dialysis patients are often underserved and underappreciated and there is a need to advocate for dialysis patients to best serve them Since inception, I have been surprised, blessed and grateful for the overwhelming community response and has enabled DaVita Kidney Specialists of Fredericksburg to expand and add 2 more physicians to the team so that we can continue to provide continued exceptional patient care.
I am dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art patient care while focusing on individual health needs. To help achieve this goal, we have developed core values that guide our approach to clinical excellence and the well-being of our patients. I am extremely grateful that all of our DKS physicians trained together, trust each other, share philosophies. We all believe that no two patients are alike, and everyone should receive individualized, patient centered care. We communicate well, are like minded and trust each other.
In my free time I spend time with my lovely wife Ellen and daughter Eloise. I have been a volunteer at several local free health clinics such as the Moss Free Clinic, and have participated in providing patient care to underserved communities for years. I have a passion for teaching and education and have been privileged to be appointed Director of Medical Student Education and clinical assistant professor of my alma mater VCOM. I will also be closely involved with the 3rd and 4th year medical student training program for rotating medical students at local affiliate hospitals.
