Hope as the best medicine at the end of life | Richard Holm | TEDxBrookings
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. At the end of life, patients experience care and anger. Sharing experiences from end of life care, Dr. Holm provides insight on what makes a good life and a good death. His choir joins him to provide a send off to TEDxBrookings.
Richard P. Holm MD grew up in DeSmet, SD, Little Town on the Prairie, did undergrad and the first two years of Medical School in South Dakota, and finished his Medical School and residency at Emory U. in Atlanta, GA. There he was on the faculty for three years until he moved back to his home state of SD, settling in Brookings.
Since 1981, he has practiced medicine in Brookings, SD and over the last years has developed an interest in providing patient education over the radio and television media. “On Call with the Prairie Doc,” a prime time call-in TV health show on SD Public TV, started it’s 13th season this August 28th.
Medical Director of the Brookings Health System Hospice has indirectly lead to his being the choral director of the “Hopeful Spirit Chorale,” a community group of singers for individuals in time of need.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
