North Texas Hand Center | Frequently Asked Questions | Dr. Stuart Hilliard | Denton
Dr. Hilliard of North Texas Hand Center answers some questions that are frequently asked of him.
Often perspective clients ask about which procedures can be done in the office instead of a hospital facility. The answer is that many procedures can be done right in the office and there are some distinct advantages to that, such as: less expense, safer, due to minimal sedation, quicker, and easier.
The next most asked question is : “Do I have to be put to sleep?”
We believe in complete disclosure when it comes to anesthesia so we discuss the three most common options: fully awake, slightly sedated and fully asleep. Most patients appreciate the ability to make an informed decision that fits their situation. North Texas Hand Center is a specialized medical center that treats injuries or problems with the hand, wrist, or fingers; anything up to the elbow. We are highly committed to providing the most personal and individualized care while incorporating the very latest in technology and innovation. The caring and helpful support staff will take the time necessary to answer any questions and make sure that patients understand their individual situations. At the North Texas Hand Center, PA, we believe that any decision for treatment should be made by the patient and physician together after a thorough evaluation and discussion about all of the surgical as well as nonsurgical options.

Hand Conditions & Treatments | North Texas Hand Center | Dr Stuart Hilliard | Denton
North Texas Hand center treats everything related to the hand, the wrist and up to the elbow. The most common malady is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. We use various forms of treatment, surgery to more conservative approaches. With surgery, we can use endoscopic or open procedures. We talk with our patients to help them decide which method will fit in best with their life style and give them the desired end results.
The next fairly common procedure is for trigger Finger. Trigger finger is a common problem that involves swelling of the entrance of a fibrous tunnel at the base of the finger that prevents the tendon from gliding smoothly. It can cause the finger to “catch” or “trigger” when opening the finger from a tight fist. It can also cause a feeling of stiffness in the affected finger as well as significant pain that can even radiate up the arm. Once again there are several options patients may choose from in treating Trigger Finger.
Another common treatment is for Dupuytren’s Disease. DD is characterized by the development of fibromatous cords and nodules in the fibrofatty layer beneath the skin along the longitudinally oriented ligamentous strands. In certain individuals, these cords can begin to contract and draw the fingers down into the palm. Many options for treatment are available and some are the latest techniques available.
I believe that the choice of treatment should be made by the patient after they are given as much information as possible about each of them. The most important discussion I have with patients before initiating any treatment deals with what their expectations are or should be regarding their results and making sure they completely understand what would be required of them to get there. Each and every patient has their own unique life circumstances and because of this, I do not have any strict criteria for recommending one treatment over another.
Call us today to get started on making an informed decision about how to treat any hand condition you have.
