Improvements in Joint Replacement Procedures - Dr. Walter Frueh in Wilmington, North Carolina
Dr. Walter Frueh discusses advancements in knee replacement surgery including improvements in components and the pain pump protocol. This new knee pain protocol allows Dr. Frueh's total knee replacement patients to recover more quickly by reducing post-operative knee pain. In the past, a patient would report a pain score of 7 out of 10, with 10 being the highest level of pain, with the use of the pain pump patients now report a pain score of 2-3 out of 10, Dr. Frueh explains. With the help of this new protocol, patients are able to recover more quickly and with significantly less pain.
Dr. Frueh is fellowship trained in adult hip and knee replacement and reconstruction. He completed his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Frueh then finished his surgical training with a fellowship in complex hip and knee reconstruction and revision with The Rothman Institute at Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Frueh is one of the founding partners of OrthoWilmington and he served as the past president of Atlantic Orthopedics. Dr. Frueh's particular interests are in minimally invasive direct anterior hip replacement, rapid recovery hip and knee replacement, and multi-modal pain management after joint replacement.
