Dr. Amy Hackett Introduction - Oregon Kidney & Hypertension Clinic
Dr. Amy Hackett is a native Oregonian, born and raised in the Portland area. She attended Oregon State University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Biology. Between undergrad and medical school she worked for a year at OHSU doing basic research on cholesterol transport. Dr. Hackett graduated from OHSU’s School of Medicine in 2000, following which, she stayed at OHSU and completed her training in Internal Medicine in 2003. She then spent a year on faculty with Providence Portland Medical Center’s Internal Medicine Residency Program, where she cultivated a passion for teaching. This was followed by returning to OHSU for Nephrology Fellowship. Following completion of her Fellowship in 2006, Dr. Hackett was invited to stay on with the Division of Nephrology at OHSU as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. In this role she combined teaching with inpatient and outpatient clinical care, in addition to serving as the Medical Director of Acute Dialysis Services, and representing Nephrology on the Department of Medicine’s Morbidity and Mortality Committee. Dr. Hackett left academic medicine for private practice in 2010 so that she could focus her attention on direct patient care, although she still enjoys and participates in teaching opportunities. Dr. Hackett has been published for her work in basic research, as well as for exploring the issues surrounding dialysis withdrawal, and the challenges of pregnancy in dialysis patients. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading and traveling. It is with great enthusiasm that she joins OKHC where she looks forward to working with others who are equally dedicated to providing only the highest-quality compassionate care to all patients.
