TV 20 Medical Spotlight: Dr. Charles Sninsky - Colon Cancer Awareness
Major medical news came just a month ago about our nation's number two cancer killer -- colon cancer. A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine reported for the first time evidence that colonoscopies cut deaths from colon cancer in half. Gastroenterologist Dr. Charles Sninsky talks on-set with TV20 Anchor Bob Williams about the study. He also discusses the annual program here at North Florida Regional Medical Center that gives 31 free colonoscopies during Colon Cancer Awareness Month to those who have lost jobs and could not otherwise have a colonoscopy.
Dr. Charles Sninsky on Colon Cancer Awareness
The month of March was Colon Cancer Awareness Month. For the fourth year in a row, people in our community who need screening colonoscopies and can't afford them got them for free at North Florida Regional's Endoscopy Center. One screening colonoscopy for each day of the month of March was offered to people who qualify medically for the procedure and who could not afford one otherwise. In years past, this proved to be a lifesaving project. In this TV20 Medical Spotlight, Digestive Disease Associates Gastroenterologist Dr. Charles Sninsky spoke with News Anchor Duke Carter about this effort.
