This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Irfan is a professional cardiologist who will reinform our traditional understanding of heart disorders. He teaches us about an overlooked epidemic that masks as a heart attack and how to combat it.
Board Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, Dr. Khan has spent a career in clinical research. He is passionate about raising awareness of the importance and value of the research process and eliminating barriers to participation. Trained at MetroHealth Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University he has been a Principal Investigator in important clinical trials since 2007.
Dr. Khan has practiced Electrophysiology since 2006 and is the Director of Electrophysiology Services at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, a title he has held since 2008. During that time the program has grown into one of the busiest in New York state, performing more than 1500 procedures per year.
Dr. Khan is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Medicine at the University at Buffalo and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. This year he was elected a Fellow of Heart Rhythm Society, the national governing body of electrophysiologists. In addition to his private practice consultancy, he oversees Safety and Quality Improvement initiatives, has ongoing teaching engagements and has developed numerous community outreach programs.
