In this video Drs Joseph Beshay and Caleb Feliciano at UTSouthwestern Medical Center excise a hemorrhagic cavernoma from the spinal cord before it bleeds again. Cavernomas or Cavernous Angiomas are classified as low-flow arteriovenous malformations. They occur predominantly in the brain stem, but also in the cerebral hemispheres and spinal cord, as did this one. Bleeding in the compact brain stem and cord often causes significant neurological deficits. Cavernomas in the cerebral hemispheres are a rare cause of seizures.
