Dr. Melissa Singer Shares the Team Approach to Pediatric Hematology
Melissa Singer, MD explains:
Here at Palms West Hospital, I feel like we've done a really good job of creating a comprehensive team approach.
We have dietitians for nutrition which is very important. We have many specialists the child may need, whether it's infectious disease, cardiology, we have these resources in case we need them. We work with the pediatric oncology support team who really helps with supportive school needs, because many kids need to come out of school for some period of time during treatment. We work with kids cancer foundation who also gives a lot of supportive care - giving families financial help and psycho-social support.

Dr. Melissa Singer Shares Why She Became a Physician
When I was in high school I was actually a candy-striper. I was about 13 years old, and I spent a lot of time on the pediatric floor because I always loved children, so from a very early age I was getting involved in the hospital setting and realized it was something I had an affinity for.
I think the greatest satisfaction out of doing my job every day is making the kids smile, trying to have a relationship with them where I'm not someone that they're afraid of but someone that they're excited to see in a way.
