What is Bellafill? Answered by Dr. Ross Clevens | Melbourne, FL
Dr. Ross Clevens talks about the 5 year filler, Bellafill.
Bellafill is a long-lasting filler, which lasts about 5 years. It's an FDA approved filler that's comprised of collagen, and PMMA microspheres that stimulates the body to form collagen.
What areas can be treated with Bellafill?
Bellafill can be used to treat the nasolabial folds, the lines under nasolabial folds, or as a liquid face lift for the cheeks to add fullness to the face.
What happens during a Bellafill treatment?
Treatment with Bellafill is very similar to any other treatment with filler. It's an office procedure that takes 5 to 10 minutes to perform. There is a slender injection performed in the area of treatment.
What happens after a Bellafill treatment?
There is really no recovery after a Bellafill treatment. Typically patients rest for a few minutes, and apply ice to the area which minimizes bruising or swelling of the treated area.
How does Bellafill compare with other fillers?
The main difference between Bellafill and other fillers such as Restylane or juvaderm is that Bellafill is longer lasting. Juvaderm, Restylane, and Voluma generally last anywhere from 6 months to one year (perhaps 1-2 years for Voluma). Bellafill lasts about 5 years.
Is Bellafill safe?
Bellafill is safe, and even has FDA approval. It is safe for treatment of the nasolabial folds, and lines in the cheeks. The granuola rate for Bellafill is about 1.2%, which compares favorably with the rates that we see with other fillers.

Dr. Ross Clevens talks about the Corner of the Lip Lift Procedure | Melbourne, FL
Melbourne, FL - Dr. Ross Clevens talks about the corner of the lip lift procedure.
The corner of the lip lift addresses the down turned corner of the mouth. The down turned corner of the mouth creates an angry or bitter appearance. Patients often tell Dr. Clevens that their friends say that they look angry or bitter, which is conveyed by the downturn corner of the mouth. This is addressed with a corner of the lip lift. A face lift and other surgical procedures address the shape of the appearance of the lip. The corner of the lip lift is the only procedure that will permanently address the downturn corner of the mouth, or the angry appearance that is conveyed by that downturned corner of the mouth.
The corner of the lip lift involves small incisions that are made at the corner of the mouth. These incisions are used to raise the corner of the mouth. Thus the angry appearance of the mouth is resolved.
Clevens Face and Body Specialists specializes in lip lift procedures, including the corner of the lip lift. This procedure can be performed in the office under local anesthesia. It takes perhaps 20-30 minutes, and the incisions are barely visible. Most patients find that they can resume their normal activities within a few days of their corner of the lip lift procedure.

Dr. Ross Clevens Talks about Brow lift Procedure for Women | Melbourne, FL
A Brow lift surgery for women is explained by Dr. Ross Clevens.
Many women wonder about how the brow lift procedure is performed, because the procedure is different in men versus women. In women a browlift consists of either an endoscopic brow lift or a trichophytic brow lift. An endoscopic brow lift is a procedure where two tiny incisions are made on the left and right side of the forehead, and the scalp below the hairline. Each incision is about 2/3 of an inch in length. Dr. Clevens then goes inside the brow with little tiny telescopes that allows him endoscopically reposition the brow. With a trichophytic brow lift an incision is made along the frontal hairline. The incision allows Dr. Clevens to lower the hairline.
All brow lifts accomplish the same goals: elevate the brows, treat the vertical lines between the brows and address the horizontal lines on the forehead.

Dr. Ross Clevens Explains the Brow lift Procedure for Men | Melbourne, FL
Melbourne, FL - Dr. Ross Clevens talks about the brow lift procedure used for men.
Many men consider getting a brow lift or forehead lift. A brow lift and a forehead lift in men is a very different procedure for men than it is for women. First of all, the patient is concerned about the shape and appearance of the brow. The male brow is more horizontal, straighter, and fuller than the feminine brow. The feminine brow is more elevated, and more arched. When a brow lift is performed on a male, it is important to focus on maintaining a masculine shape to the male brow so a feminine appearance isn't created.
First Dr. Clevens establishes a masculine appearance to the brow and masculine position to the brow. The next consideration is the hairline, and where the scars will be hidden. Sometimes an endoscopic brow lift will be performed by making 2 tiny incisions up on the forehead by the scalp (incisions are 2/3 of a inch), and they virtually vanish as they heal. Sometimes Dr. Clevens will hide incisions in existing horizontal creases in the forehead. That way when patient will lift their brows or animate the incision is hidden within that fold and truly very inconspicuous.
Again, the point of a brow lift is to achieve a smoother brow, a masculine brow position, and to hide the incision location (even in bald men).

Dr. Ross Clevens Explains What a Subnasal Lip Lift Entails | Melbourne, FL
Melbourne, FL - Dr. Ross Clevens explains a Subnasal Lip Lift.
A Subnasal lip lift, or bullhorn lip lift, is a procedure that addresses the long white upper lip. As we age, the upper lip tends to lengthen, the white portion becomes longer, and the pink lip becomes smaller and folds in. This procedure is done by making a small incision in the shadow of the nose, and a raise of the lip. This raises the central portion of the lip, lifting the lip so it is more youthful in position and more full in appearance.
The subnasal lip lift is one of the three times of major lip lifts that Clevens Face and Body Specialists performs. One is the subnasal or bullhorn lip lift, another is a corner of the lip lift, and the third is the direct lip lift. The corner of the lip lift addresses the angry frown lines that appear on the corner of the mouth. The direct lip lift creates a fuller or more voluptuous look to the upper and/or lower lip.
A lip lift can be performed in the office under local anesthesia and it takes perhaps 20-30 minutes to perform the procedure. Most of the patients find that they can resume their normal activities within a few days of a subnasal lip lift.
Trained at Yale, Harvard and the University of Michigan, Ross A. Clevens, MD, FACS is Brevard's Double Board Certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. How Can a Lip Lift Enhance Your Lips? - Dr. Ross Clevens Explains | Melbourne, FL
Melbourne, FL- Dr. Ross Clevens explains what a Lip Lift is.
A lip lift is a surgical procedure that modifies or alters the lips. Depending up which type of procedure we perform, we can form fuller lips, permanently, with a direct lip lift. The down-turned corners of the mouth that make us appear bitter or angry can be addressed with a corner of the lip lift. Patients with a long, wide upper lip can get a subnasal lip lift to shorten the white upper lip and make the patient look more youthful.
Lip Lift procedures aim to rejuvenate and improve the appearance of the lips.
Lip Lifts can be performed in the office under local anesthesia. This procedure can be performed within about 20-30 minutes. Most patients can resume their normal activities within a few days of their lip lift surgery.

Dr. Ross Clevens & Face of Change - Pro Bono Rhinoplasty Helps Bullied Florida Teen | Melbourne, FL
MELBOURNE, FLA – Clevens Face and Body Specialists is proud to announce a recent collaboration with a local charitable foundation to help a teen in need. Malak’s Medical and Dental Warriors reached out to Ross A. Clevens, MD, FACS for assistance with a young man named Lewis who had been severely bullied because of the appearance of his nose. Through the nonprofit Face of Change, Dr. Clevens donated his time and skill to provide a pro bono “rhinoplasty” or nasal contouring procedure for Lewis.
Every year, more than 3.2 million students are the victims of bullying, according to DoSomething.org. As many as 160,000 kids skip school each day to avoid taunting and teasing. Disproportionate facial features and physical deformities are some of the most common triggers for bullying in kids and teens. Lewis, a hardworking AP student active in his high school jazz band, was born with a nose that caused him to be the object of ridicule by his peers and teachers alike. He was even told by an adult ROTC instructor that he had “a face only a mother could love.”
Malak Hammad of the Melbourne nonprofit Malak’s Medical and Dental Warriors first noticed the shy teenager at an event. “This young man really touched my heart,” Hammad said. She immediately brought Lewis to the attention of Dr. Clevens and Face of Change, a charitable entity created by the Clevens family more than 10 years ago. Face of Change provides food and medical care for needy children locally and abroad. “Lewis brought to us a story where he was the victim of severe bullying because of his appearance. It was such a distressing story, we felt that we could help,” says Dr. Clevens. “He was a great candidate for a rhinoplasty or cosmetic nasal surgery to re-contour his nose.”
Now an Industrial Engineering major at the University of South Florida, Lewis has changed from a shy high schooler to a self-assured college student. “Post-surgery, I do feel a lot more confident,” he says. “The people around me definitely made it clear that my nose looked weird. From elementary school all the way into high school, my peers and even some of my ROTC instructors had some quips to say about my nose – it was kind of hooked, it was kind of droopy – and now that that’s gone, they really have nothing negative to say about me. And that’s just really nice.”
Recognizing the social value of facial plastic surgery, Dr. Clevens has participated in the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Domestic Violence Project, offering pro bono reconstructive surgery to victims of domestic violence and trauma. “It feels fantastic to be able to use my skills and talents as a facial plastic surgeon to help an individual,” he says. “In this case, it really made Lewis much more comfortable with himself, helped with his self-esteem and improved his social interactions.”
An award-winning double board certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Clevens has practiced in Brevard County for 20 years. He is the creator of the Laser-Assisted Weekend Necklift and a pioneer in the use of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) healing gel to speed recovery and improve patient outcomes. Trained at Yale, Harvard, and the University of Michigan, Dr. Clevens founded Clevens Face and Body Specialists. Dr. Ross Clevens on How to Maintain Facelift Results - Melbourne, FL
Dr. Ross Clevens talks about ways to maintain the results from having a facelift surgery.
In order to maintain results after a cosmetic surgery, the patients should use a good sunblock everyday. Sun exposure ages the skin, and using a good sunblock helps block the skin from the suns ravages. Additionally patients should use good skincare. Dr. Clevens even created his own skincare line, which is in the office, that works to maintain the skin in a radiant and glowing youthful fashion. So sunblock and good skincare regiment are very important.
A lot of patients also turn to nonsurgical methods. This can include Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport, or just fillers in general. These are used to fill lines that form after surgery.
Also skin tightening techniques can be used to maintain facelift results. These are non-surgical techniques that use lasers or radio frequency.
Overall, using a good sunblock, using a good skin regiment as well as sometimes using filler or skin tightening techniques are ways to maintain facelift results.

How Will My Face Age After a Facelift? - Dr. Ross Clevens | Melbourne, FL
Melbourne, FL - Ross A. Clevens, MD, FACS discusses how faces age after a facelift surgery.
Many patients wonder how they will age after a facelift. Dr. Clevens explains to patients that a facelift really turns the clock back. A facelift turns the clock back about 10-15 years, meaning that patients look 10-15 years younger as a result of having the surgery. They always look better having had a facelift, even 30-40 years from now patients will look better that they had a facelift rather than if they chose not to. Some patients think a facelift accelerates aging, however that isn't true. What is does is set the clock back, giving patients a younger, more youthful, refreshed looking face.

Dr. Ross Clevens Talks About Improving Facial Symmetry - Melbourne, FL
Can you make my face more symmetric? is answered by Facial specialist Dr. Ross Clevens.
First of all, all faces are asymmetric. No person has a left side of the face that exactly the same as the right side of their face. That being said, we link symmetry to beauty. There are different options to make faces more symmetrical.
Often times a filler can be used to help plumpen out the folds on one side so it will match the other side. Also filler can be used to fill out the cheeks on one side to match the other.
Often patient can have asymmetry in their brows and their eyelids. In this case the patient could have a brow lift where one brow is lifted more than the other to create a better degree of match between the left and right sides of the face. Likewise with eyelid surgery, there are procedures that can create a greater degree of symmetry.
Again remember that everyone has a certain degree of asymmetry between their left and right side of the face, however there are solutions to lessen asymmetry.

Dr. Ross Clevens Talks About the Recovery After Rhinoplasty Surgery | Melbourne, FL
Melbourne, FL - Dr. Ross Clevens talks about the recovery process after having a rhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty surgery is performed as an outpatient surgical procedure that generally takes about 1-2 hours to perform. After surgery, patients will have to wear a splint that stays in place for about 5-7 days. Once the splint is removed, after about a weeks time most patients are able to return to normal activities such as going back to work or school. Patients are told to wait 2 weeks before performing aerobic activities and one month before heavy lifting or vigorous activities or activities where patients might be prone to a nose injury.
Truly it takes about a year for all of the swelling to go away after a rhinoplasty surgery. Thus you will really see your final result after a year. When the splint comes off after a week, you will see a good idea about what your nose will look like and certainly by 6-8 weeks a lot of the swelling is gone. Again thought the patients true results will be visible after a year.

Does a Facelift Get Rid of Wrinkles? Answered by Dr. Ross Clevens | Melbourne, FL
Dr. Ross Clevens answers the question of whether a facelift gets rid of wrinkles or not.
If you are thinking about getting a facelift, you might wonder if having this surgery will get rid of wrinkles. The answer is no. A facelift really doesn't treat wrinkles, it really treats the laxity of the skin and muscle weakness in the face. A facelift is a lifting and repositioning procedure. It will lift the cheeks, tighten the jowls in the jawline as well as the neck and the double chin. It really doesn't treat lines and wrinkles.
Many patients considering facelift surgery are worried about lines and wrinkles around the mouth, crows feet, or lines and wrinkles on the cheek or on other areas of the face. A facelift doesn't treat those concerns, instead the patient should get laser skin resurfacing or some sort of skin resurfacing procedure. That procedure would be used to improve the texture and quality of the skin and to remove lines and wrinkles, and they could get it at the same time that he or she is getting a facelift.

Dr. Ross Clevens on Scar Treatment & Recovery | Melbourne, FL
Dr. Ross Clevens talks about recovering from scar revision treatment.
Lots of patients come with concerns about their existing scars either from prior surgery, from trauma, or from skin cancer surgery. In any situation, or no matter where it came from, any scar could be a bother to patients.
These scars are treated with a variety of laser techniques, sometimes mechanical sanding techniques. The treatment for an improvement of a scar is permanent, once improved that treatment is permanent and very long lasting.
How long does it take to recover from scar revision techniques?
That really depends upon the technique used. Some lasers used to treat scars at Clevens Face and Body Specialists have little to no recovery period, maybe just a little redness or pinkness that lasts for 24 hours.
Other methods used to remove scars have a longer recovery period. Sometimes a mechanical sander is used to smooth the surface of the scar, or a laser is used to smooth the surface of the scar as well as the superficial layers of the skin. These techniques have a healing time around 5-7 days.
So really depending on the treatment used also depends on the recovery time. Which treatment used depends on the individual nature of the patients scar as well as which technique Dr. Clevens thinks would have the best possible outcome.

What is Recovery Like for Brow Lift Surgery? Answered by Dr. Ross Clevens | Melbourne, FL
Dr. Ross Clevens discusses the recovery for a patient who got brow lift surgery.
The brow lift surgery may be performed as a procedure itself or at the time of other procedures, such as eyelid surgery, or facelift surgery. The recovery period for having brow lift surgery is about a week or so. In Dr. Clevens own experiences, most of his patients are able to resume their ordinary activities about one week after brow lift surgery. When he says ordinary activities he means that patients can return to work, social activities, and other things of that sort. He does ask patients to refrain from heavy lifting, bending, and vigorous activities for up to one month after the surgery. Additionally patients should also avoid aerobic activities for about 2 weeks. Most patients find that they can return to work as well as their social activities within a week or so.

Dr. Ross Clevens Talks about Direct Lip Lifts | Melbourne, FL
The three types of lip lifts are described by Dr. Ross Clevens.
The direct lip lift is a procedure that gets fuller, more voluptuous appearing upper or lower lips. This is a permanent procedure that augments, or creates, a fuller upper lip, lower lip, or both the upper and lower lips. There is no implant involved, it simply uses the patients own tissue to create a fuller, more voluptuous appearing lip.
A direct lip lift can be performed in the office under local anesthesia, taking usually 20-30 minutes. Most patients find that they can resume their normal activities within a few days of their lip lift procedure.

A Brow lift Candidate as Explained by Dr. Ross Clevens | Melbourne, FL
Dr. Ross Clevens explains the qualifications of a patients that's a brow lift candidate.
You may think you are a candidate for a brow lift. Dr. Clevens hears the following from patients who are candidates for a brow lift: concerns about an angry look caused by vertical lines on the upper 1/3 of the face, and having horizontal lines on the forehead. A brow lift or forehead lift works to smooth the horizontal and vertical lines on the forehead and between the brows. Brow lift and forehead lift also elevate the brows, so many patients will have droopy eyes, which are due to droopiness from the brow rather than droopiness from the lids.
Some patients think they need eyelid surgery to correct the droopiness above their eyes, but instead they would be a better candidate for a brow lift. A brow lift or forehead surgery creates a more youthful appearance that opens up the eye.
The best way to determine if you are a candidate for a brow lift or upper eyelid surgery is to come in for a consultation.

There are really many benefits to having a rhinoplasty surgery.
The first benefit is an improved nasal appearance. A rhinoplasty can give you that nose that you always hoped for, a nose thats better looking, more proportional, and better fits the appearance of your face.
Another major benefit of rhinoplasty is that the surgeon is often able to improve breathing, or to improve sinus function. What is Laser Skin Resurfacing? - Dr. Ross Clevens | Melbourne, FL
Dr. Clevens explains skin resurfacing.
Laser skin resurfacing is a technique used to erase the signs of aging. It removes line, wrinkles, improves the texture and quality of the skin while also creating a more youthful appearing skin. The procedure is often performed alone as an independent procedure, but also it can be performed at the time of another surgery.
Laser skin resurfacing is done by matching the patients skin needs with one of Clevens multiple skin resurfacing devices. The match is associated with the patients degree of sun damage and skin damage. Some lasers have none to minimal recovery time, while others take a week or 10 days to recover from.
Because of the multitude of devices that Clevens Face and Body Specialists has, they are able to match the devices not only to the patients skin type and degree of skin damage, but also to their lifestyle. Thus if a person has a really busy lifestyle, Dr. Clevens could use a technique with a short recovery time.
In any case with skin resurfacing, Dr. Clevens is able to achieve a more youthful appearing skin that is relatively free or wrinkles, brown spots, lines and imperfections. It creates a more radiant glow for the skin.

Dr. Ross Clevens Describes a Procedure that Corrects the Hairline | Melbourne, FL
Hairline Correction procedures are describe by Dr. Ross Clevens.
Many women have a high hairline, which is seen as a masculinizing characteristic, as well as an aging characteristic. When patients get a brow lift or forehead lift, Dr. Clevens can lower the hairline (in men as well as women). In this case you can take the hairline down to a more ideal position.
It is very important to consider the hairline when performing a brow lift. Some browlift techniques will raise the hairline and others will lower the hairline.
Dr. Clevens would perform a brow lift that lowers the hair line as well as creating a smoother brow and a more youthful position to the brows themselves.
