Cataract Eye Surgery in Michigan with Thomas Claringbold II, D.O.

John Bicknell of Clare, Michigan used to wear glasses, but was surprised to learn he had cataracts at age 44. His opthamologist, Thomas Claringbold II, D.O. offered a new type of lens implant that corrected not only his cataracts, but also his nearsightedness and astigmatism.

I did a lot of research, talked to a lot of people. I discovered that Dr. Claringbold's education and experience were outstanding, John said. Other people, other physicians, everyone said he was the person to go to.

Dr. Claringbold used advanced lens implants specifically made to correct John's vision, with two tiny arms to allow Dr. Claringbold to position and hold them correctly in John's eyes. Dr. Claringbold performed surgery on each of John's eyes -- about two weeks apart -- at MidMichigan Medical Center--Clare.

During surgery, John's eye was numb and he did not feel any pain, but he was awake and talking with the doctor and nurses. He went home afterwards with a patch over his eye and returned the next morning for Dr. Claringbold to remove it. After that, he went to work as usual, only with better vision.

It's been a year since the surgeries, and John has had no problems.

Having 20/20 vision without glasses has made a huge difference in my life, he said. I can roll over in bed and look at the alarm clock. I can read the shampoo bottle in the shower. I can finally wear curved sunglasses to protect my eyes when I ride my motorcycle.

There was an added benefit at work. As a vice president for beverage distributors Fabiano Brothers, Inc., John used to leave walk-in coolers at work and have his glasses fog up.

Now when I walk out of a cooler, he said, I can see!
