Dr. Tehrani explains how sutures were previously made with Catgut which is derived from sheep intestine not a feline byproduct. The sutures in the past were also sterilized in alcohol and a surgical nurse would have to break the glass that contains the material and manually thread it to the suture for the surgeon to use. Now surgical sutures are individually peel packaged, they are absorbable and antibacterial coated to ensure your wound is completely closed and sterile.
