My name is Phillip Bale and I’m a family physician practicing in Glasgow, Kentucky.

Well I think in the context of national discussion, which is going on right now about health care, it's a great time to talk about primary care.

I really believe that we're beginning to enter into a new golden era of primary care.

There's no other specialty that speaks to the value for health care in our system. There's lots of data and statistics to back up that areas that have more primary care physicians not only have better outcomes in terms of illness, but at significantly less cost.

Having a relationship and ongoing conversation if you will with a patient over years leads to better care and less costly care.

I think primary care also speaks to the importance of a team approach. Working closely with other allied health professionals means better care and goodness knows that's what our health care system needs today.

I have a wooden sign in my office that says, Because nice matters and I think that's very true in all aspects of our lives, but when it comes to health care I hope people can walk into our office and expect to be treated courteously, efficiently, in a respectful manner, and then, of course, we have to back that up with state-of-the-art, evidence-based, quality medicine and health care and I think we do that.
